Local AI on Windows stops being a hobby, while regulated cloud control hardens
Hugging Face released Llama Windows, a free Windows 11 app that downloads quantised models, runs them locally and exposes an OpenAI-compatible API on the same PC for other software to call. An OpenAI-compatible API means a local program can answer in the same request format many AI apps already know, so the app can replace a cloud model without the calling software being rebuilt. This likely matters beyond one tool because it lowers the work needed to turn Windows machines into local AI endpoints inside ordinary software estates, where Microsoft has pushed Copilot and Azure as the default control surface. It also suggests that open-weight models gain distribution not only through model releases but through packaging that makes local execution look like a normal service.
Microsoft made Azure Enclave generally available in commercial Azure and Azure for US Government as a managed isolated cloud environment with policy-based protections for sensitive and regulated workloads. Azure Enclave is a separated part of Azure with its own network and policy boundaries, in other words a pre-built governed zone for workloads that cannot sit in an ordinary shared cloud setup. This appears to move enterprise AI buying from model choice alone toward where governed operation can happen, because the obstacle in regulated use is often not access to a model but where data, traffic and administrators are allowed to be. For Microsoft, that makes the visible contest less about having one assistant everywhere than about owning the control layer around whichever models a customer is willing to use.
NVIDIA and Cisco introduced USFP, a new optical module standard for Ethernet AI fabrics that puts up to 12.8Tb/s into an OSFP-sized footprint. NVIDIA also contributed Vera Rubin rack and compute tray designs and updated MGX specifications to the Open Compute Project. AMD introduced its Helion rack-scale AI reference design for agentic workloads, and Lattice Semiconductor with AMI launched an Open Compute Project workstream for secure control and boot of rack and pod infrastructure.
