Alibaba turns an equity sale into an AI infrastructure budget
Alibaba announced the pricing and planned placement of HK$80 billion of newly issued ordinary shares to non-U.S. investors and said all net proceeds will go into expanding its full-stack AI capabilities and AI infrastructure.
This is likely to matter beyond Alibaba because a share sale of that size turns AI spending into committed financing rather than an internal plan. It also suggests that generative AI now reaches the point where large providers fund chips, data centres and model development with capital-market moves that other companies, customers and competitors have to absorb as changed supply and pricing conditions.
An anonymous provider released the Ox Alpha reasoning model on OpenRouter as a free model for coding and agentic workloads. OpenRouter is a broker that lets developers call many models through one interface instead of signing up with each provider separately.
