Microsoft launches Scout agent while OpenAI expands Codex and Anthropic secures major funding

Microsoft made several moves in the past week, led by the launch of Microsoft Scout on June 2. Scout is a personal Autopilot agent integrated into Microsoft 365 apps, designed to handle tasks across email, calendar, and files with an emphasis on security and governance. Alongside Scout, Microsoft introduced new tools including Rayfin (an open-source SDK for agentic apps), MDASH (a multi-model agentic scanning tool that ties together Microsoft Defender and GitHub Code Security), and Work IQ APIs for integrating business context and workflows. Microsoft Discovery, an AI platform for research teams, became generally available, offering agentic collaboration for both organizations and individual users.

Meanwhile, OpenAI broadened its Codex system with new features and plugins on June 2, making the platform more accessible to knowledge workers beyond software developers. The update includes added role-specific plugins and workflow improvements. Anthropic secured a significant $35 billion financing package finalized on June 5 from Apollo Global Management and Blackstone, aimed directly at funding expanded compute capacity for its AI systems, including the purchase of custom Google AI chips.

In infrastructure news, Google reached a high-profile agreement with SpaceX on June 5 to secure computing power using NVIDIA GPUs at SpaceX’s Colossus 1 data center, showing the ongoing scramble for AI resources among tech giants.
